Sustainable Toys: Kid Tested Mum ApprovedWith two little boys in the house, toys are constantly on my mind. I pick them up, I trip over them, I search for favourites and I make sure a couple are always in my purse. We think about toys at ethiquette also, and we were recently talking with www.learningtoys.ca . learningtoys.ca is a seller of our favourite toys for the boys; Plan Toys.
If all businesses were operated on the same principles as Plan Toys I would be less concerned about the future of our planet. The Plan Toys 2009 Sustainability Report is impressive, suffice it to say that this is a company that transforms otherwise carbon emitting waste products into high quality eco-friendly toys. They do so while using environmentally manufacturing processes and materials, minimizing packaging and respecting their employees.
Critics might argue that Plan Toys model cannot be replicated by other industries, I say that all industries can embrace and work towards the principles of embodied at Plan Toys. They can optimize manufacturing to minimize waste and energy consumption, they can respect their employees, they can minimize packaging and they can promote the use environmentally friendly materials.
Humans cannot inhabit the planet impact free. One of the traits that differentiates us from the other species on the planet is that we modify our environment to correspond to our needs as opposed to adapting to the environment – maybe that is something we need to carefully consider, but I digress. We can minimize our negative impacts and maximize our positive impacts by making the right choices, and Plan Toys is a stellar example of a manufacturing company that strives to do exactly that.
